Chapter 1
Joy in Faith and Salvation
1 I rejoiced with you greatly in the Lord our Jesus Christ, because you received the examples of true love and sent on their way, as it was your duty, those who were bound in chains befitting holiness—chains that are the diadems of those who are truly chosen by God and our Lord.[1]
2 And I rejoice that the firm root of your faith, proclaimed from ancient times, endures until now and bears fruit for our Lord Jesus Christ, who endured even to death for our sins, whom God raised, loosing the pangs of Hades.[2]
3 In him, though you have not seen him, you believe with inexpressible and glorified joy—a joy into which many desire to enter, knowing that you are saved by grace, not by works, but by the will of God through Jesus Christ.[3]
