Chapter 3

Faith, Hope, and Love

1 Brothers, I write these things to you not on my own authority about righteousness, but because you yourselves invited me to do so.

2 For neither I nor anyone like me can follow the wisdom of the blessed and glorious Paul, who when he was among you taught the word of truth accurately and firmly in the presence of those who were then living, and who when absent wrote you letters; if you study them carefully, you will be able to be built up in the faith that has been given to you.

3 Faith is the mother of us all, when hope follows and love for God and Christ and for our neighbour leads the way. For if anyone lives within these, he has fulfilled the commandment of righteousness; for the one who has love is far from all sin.
