Chapter Twenty-Four

David’s stay in En-gedi. David’s magnanimity toward Saul.

1 Samuel 24:1. And David went up from there and dwelt in the strongholds of En-gedi. En-gedi is a wild, mountainous region on the western shore of the Dead Sea.

1 Samuel 24:6. And afterward, David’s heart smote him, because he had cut off a corner of Saul’s robe. “David’s heart smote him”—realizing the unworthy feeling to which he had just yielded (cf. 1 Sam 24:7).

1 Samuel 24:15. Why have you come out against the king of Israel? What are you pursuing? A dead dog, a single flea. “A dead dog, a single flea.” Comparisons indicating the disproportion of the social position and armed strength of Saul and David.
