Chapter Five
Bar 4:1-9. The summons directed to Jerusalem to clothe herself in joyful garments and to receive the returning captives.
Baruch 5:1. Jerusalem! put off the garment of mourning and your tribulation and clothe yourself in the splendor of the glory from God forever. Bar 5:1-9. Jerusalem must put off the garments of sorrow and clothe herself in bright garments as a sign of her exaltation that she will receive from God. Moreover, she must go up to the mountains and watch her children returning from far captivity, under the leadership of God Himself.
Baruch 5:2. Clothe yourself in the garment of righteousness from God, put upon your head the crown of the glory of the Eternal, 2. “Garment of righteousness,” that is, this garment which God gave you according to righteousness, in accordance with His promises. “Crown” — this is a royal crown. Jerusalem, like a queen, places upon herself a crown — a symbol of her high dignity.
Baruch 5:3. for God will show all the world under heaven your glory. Baruch 5:4. Forever you will be called by God by the name, “Peace of Righteousness and Glory of Piety. 4. “You will be called,” that is, it will belong to you in reality. Jerusalem will not merely by name but in deed be a city in which will dwell peace that comes from righteousness, and glory that is produced by the piety of its inhabitants. On the expression “to call” (i.e., to name), see Isa 7:14.
Baruch 5:5. Arise, Jerusalem, and stand on the height, and look to the east, and see your children gathered from the west of the sun to the east by the word of the Holy One, rejoicing in the remembrance of God. Baruch 5:6. They went out from you on foot, being led away by enemies, but God will bring them to you being carried with glory, as the sons of a king; Baruch 5:7. for God has appointed that every high mountain and the eternal hills will be lowered, and the valleys will be filled, for the earth to be made level, so that Israel may walk steadily with the glory of God, Baruch 5:8. and the forests and every fragrant tree will shade Israel at the command of God. Baruch 5:9. God will lead Israel with joy by the light of His glory, with mercy and righteousness from Him.
