Chapter One Hundred Twenty-Two
The content of the psalm consists of a depiction of that intense prayer and expectation with which the Hebrews were filled before the end of the captivity and before their return to their homeland.
Only to You, O Lord, dwelling in the heavens, do we turn with prayer, and only from You do we expect mercy, just as a servant or servant girl expects reward from their masters (1–2). We expect forgiveness from You, because during the long time of our stay in captivity we are already saturated with contempt from the haughty and proud oppressors of ours (3–4).
