Chapter Sixty-Nine

This psalm represents a repetition of the content of psalm 39 from the 14th verse, almost without any changes. Its content is petitionary in character, as the heading indicates. “For a memorial,” that is, to remind the Lord of the need for swift help. It belongs to David and was written, as the indicated part of psalm 39, on account of persecutions from Absalom. For the content, see psalm 39. The psalm is used during worship in the small compline before sleep, when a person is helpless and powerless before enemies, from whom he asks God for protection in this psalm.
