Chapter XXXI. That All the Works of God Are Good

As the Hebrew Scripture after each of the creations adds the phrase, ‘And God saw that it was good,’ and after the summing up of all says, ‘And God saw them all, . . . and behold they were very good’;[1] now hear how Plato speaks:

‘If then indeed this world is fair, and its Creator good, it is evident that he was looking to that pattern which is eternal.’ [2]

And again:

‘For the world is the fairest of things created, and He the best of causes.’ [3]
