Chapter 162
1 When the Lord, then, was recounting to the disciples concerning the coming kingdom of the saints, how it would be glorious and wonderful, Judas, astonished at what was said, exclaimed: “And who then shall see these things?” And the Lord said: “These things shall those see who have become worthy.”
2 See now, O man, the things sealed up of old and unable to be known are now proclaimed openly upon the housetops; and the book of life, stretched out, is now plainly spread upon the wood, bearing a title written in Latin and Greek and Hebrew, so that Romans and Greeks and Hebrews alike may be taught—in order that men, awaiting the good things to come, may believe the things inscribed in this book of life and proclaimed in all the world, and learning the evils that are coming, fearing the judgment, may flee the eternal punishment; so that all of us, found worthy of the King, may receive him pure with pure bodies and souls, clothed about the body with bright and fragrant robes, having trimmed our own lamps with translucent oil, that we may not, deceived by the carousing and the drunkenness and the manifold illusion and pleasure of this life, and reckoning the temporal and earthly and corruptible things greater than the everlasting and incorruptible and undefiled good things, doze off and fall away from the everlasting life.
3 And God is able to make us all watchful toward the things to come, to equip us, to have mercy, to save, to guard, to keep us from every trial and affliction, so that, having fled the judgment that is coming through fire, we may attain to meet with joy the appearing of his beloved Child Jesus Christ our Lord, glorifying him; for to him be the glory now and ever and unto the ages of ages. Amen.
