Chapter 57
See the steadfastness of words spoken through a single mouth, that they might not stumble in any saying.
For when the king threatened and said, “Why do you not serve my gods and worship the golden image which I have set up?” they answered, “We have no need to answer you concerning this matter,” not even regarding him as worthy of a defense on such a point.
Then, when the king said, “You shall be cast into the burning fiery furnace; and who is the god who will be able to rescue you out of my hands?” they countered the word spoken by the king and said: “There is a God whom we serve, able to deliver us from the burning fiery furnace; and out of your hands, O king, he will rescue us.”
And when the king said again, “Now therefore, if you are ready, when you hear the sound of the trumpet, pipe and lyre, sackbut and harp and every kind of music, fall down and worship the golden image,” they said to him: “Let it be known to you, O king, that we do not serve your gods, and we do not worship the golden image which you have set up.”
