Chapter 84

Now the things that befell King Nebuchadnezzar in those times were such as were recorded for the admonition and reminder of all men, as Daniel too related these things as having truly come to pass in the forms and visions, concerning which, if we advance to the proper place, comparing the two together we will show them to be alike and true.

For Nebuchadnezzar saw two dreams, that of the many-colored image, and then that concerning the tree, which Daniel interpreted, and which will be fulfilled in due time.

Likewise the things that Daniel also beholds—four beasts coming up from the sea, of which some have already come to pass, but some will yet come to pass—so that we may show the prophecy of Daniel to be alike and equal to the rest, differing in nothing, as a proof of the things that have already happened and that are and that will again come to be.

For if we believe in the things that have already happened, since he speaks truly, how shall not also all the things that are coming be true, which the blessed prophets foretold would come to be? And according to the will of God, advancing in their own appointed times, they will all be fulfilled.
