Second Discourse of Father John of Kronstadt on the Lutheran and Anglican Faith

“The Lutherans and Anglicans have no Church: for they do not venerate the saints and do not pray for the dead, who are also members of the Church. They have not the Head of the Church—Christ, for He is the Head of the whole body, not a mutilated one, such as that of the Lutherans and Anglicans. They have not the Helmsman of the ship—the Holy Spirit, for the Holy Spirit cannot dwell where the body of the Church has been willfully and daringly dismembered and deprived of life. In Scripture, from Saint Paul, in the epistle to the Philippians, chapter 2, verses 10 and 11, it is said: To Him (the Son of God) every knee shall bow—of those in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord to the glory of God the Father. Where then, among the Lutherans and Anglicans, is the knee of heaven and the underworld, and even that of earth? For even among the earthly knee—the Lutherans and Anglicans living on earth—there is no legitimate priesthood and no legitimate, sanctifying, confirming, deifying Mysteries—Repentance, Communion, Anointing, Priesthood, Marriage and Unction of the Sick. And where is the veneration of angels among the Lutherans and Anglicans? Yet they are members of the Church: for the one Church of Angels and men was constituted and headed by Christ God.”
