Chapter II — Duties From the Priestly Law

Duties flowing from the liturgical law.

What are the duties imposed on the faithful by the liturgical law?

The duties imposed on Christians by the liturgical law are the following:

1) To love the Church of Christ with all his soul and heart; (b) to take care to transmit and spread her teaching, so that the kingdom of God may be established on earth, the work of salvation may be accomplished, and there may come to be one flock, one shepherd, Christ (1); (c) to confess openly the revealed truth and to bear witness, by deed and word, to his devotion to the Church: “Everyone who confesses me before men, I also will confess before my Father who is in heaven; but whoever denies me before men, I also will deny him before my Father who is in heaven;” (2); (d) to keep himself as a child of the spotless bride of Christ, the Church…[1]

(1) John 10:16.[2] (2) Matt. 10:32–33.[3]

Christ loved her and gave himself up for her, that he might sanctify her, having cleansed her by the washing of water with the word, and that he might present her to himself in splendor, without spot or wrinkle or any such thing; but that she might be holy and blameless; (5) to revere her ministers as servants of the divine word and stewards of the mysteries and faithful guardians of sacred tradition; (6) to worship God not only privately, but also with the fullness of the Church in the sacred temples, participating in the rites and praying together and communing in the immaculate mysteries; (7) to submit and obey the Church’s laws and ordinances; and 8) he must have love toward all, and especially toward those of the household of faith, demonstrating his love both in word and in deed (2), striving to advance their enlightenment and sanctification (3).
