Chapter 13
The Inscription Borne by the Cross of Shirin, Consort of Chosroes King of the Persians, Which She Wore (Evagrius, Ecclesiastical History, Book 6, Chapter 21)
Christ bore you on His shoulders before the divine wood; you bore Him nailed fast, and I bear you in my longing for both. Guard me, you also, by the strength from both. (copied from the work of Jacobi Gretsiri p. 427).
John of Damascus in his work On the Orthodox Faith. Book 4 of Faith, chapter 12, pages 805–806, says: “The Precious Cross of Christ is more wonderful than all things; for through nothing else has death been abolished, the sin of the forefather been loosed, Hades been plundered, the Resurrection been granted, the power to despise present things and death itself been given to us, the return to our ancient blessedness been accomplished, the gates of paradise been opened, our nature seated at the right hand of God, and we become heirs of God, except through the Cross of our Lord Jesus Christ.”
