On the Innate Word
We call innate word the faculty of the energy of the intellect through which it thinks, judges, universalizes and reasons. Therefore innate word is the rational energy of the intellect, that is, the intellect in energy. We call the innate word also intellection through the identity of the energy; for intellection is intellect moved into energy, and word is the power moving the intellect; intellect without word is not intellection, that is, not active power, but a mirror receiving the notions of objects and holding them as long as they stand at the threshold, and discarding them as soon as they fall. The word which constitutes the intellect intellection is the one producing ideas and expressing the categories of things; the intellect takes the notion of the rose, and of the violet and distinguishes the one from the other, but in order to say the rose is red, the violet is blue, in order to categorize them their qualities, it must become intellection through the moving into energy word. In the faculties of the word manifests the divinity of the soul and the divine wisdom expressed through the word having moved the intellect into energy and knowledge of itself, and of the creation around it. The divine wisdom which having moved the intellect into energy through the word, gave it as a garment an organic body of marvelous perfection, manifested not only in the organism, but also in the sensory organs, distinguished among all beings of creation. The intellect through the word and the perfection of the body produces the phenomena of the spiritual life of man, from which it is elevated to the highest prospect in which appears its greatness, and its high dignity in the creation of the world.
The intellectual energy itself furnished from the facts of its existence through the works of invention; this brought forth the words in utmost faculty and energy, and invented differently from itself toward the expression of feelings and thoughts of it.
