On Stillness and Prayer
1 13. For stillness is the mother of prayer, and prayer is the manifestation of divine glory. For when we close the senses, and commune with ourselves and with God, and, freed from the outward whirl of the world, come to be within ourselves, then shall we clearly behold within ourselves the kingdom of God. For the kingdom of heaven, which is the kingdom of God, is within us, as Jesus the God declared.
