Peter the Cardinal on Hierarchs Restored by Rome

1 Peter, the most God-fearing presbyter and cardinal, said: Flavian of Constantinople, John Chrysostom, Cyril of Jerusalem, and Polychronios likewise—as your holiness has also declared—when they had been driven from their own thrones, the holy Church of the Romans by its own authority restored ⟦to them⟧ again. And the most holy Gregory the Dialogist, having driven out the bishop ⟦in⟧ Dalmatia on account of some slander, again restored him to his own throne; and when pope Nicholas had wholly ⟦deposed⟧ the most reverend Zacharias, pope Hadrian again gave back to him his own throne, whom now also the most holy pope John has made librarian. He is not ⟦inferior⟧ either to pope Hadrian or to pope Nicholas in administering what is profitable to the Church of God.
