Prokopios of Caesarea Receives Photios as Patriarch

1 After the reading of the letter, Prokopios the most God-beloved archbishop of Caesarea in Cappadocia said: We, as we have often said, both before your honored coming and before the exhortation contained in the honored letter, received and do receive Photios the most holy patriarch as our hierarch and shepherd; and to him as our own shepherd and master ⟦we have cleaved⟧ and embraced him; and he himself most gladly took us into his embrace with fatherly affection. And this good and worthy thing, befitting his own integrity, the most holy Pope John has done; in that he fulfilled the august will of our exalted and great emperors and of our humility, and sent your Holiness to us in agreement with us in all things. And glory be to God; and we pray for our pious emperors and for the most holy Pope John. And we venerate you as his vicars and ministers, and as holding the throne of Peter, the chief of the apostles.
