On Love for God
One who has acquired perfect love exists in this life as if he did not exist in it. For he considers himself a stranger to the visible world, patiently awaiting the invisible. He has been wholly transformed into love for God and has forgotten all other attachments.
Whoever loves himself cannot love God. But whoever does not love himself for the sake of love for God, loves God.
One who truly loves God considers himself a stranger and sojourner on this earth, for in his striving toward God he contemplates with his soul and mind Him alone.
A soul filled with the love of God will not fear the prince of the air even at the moment of its departure from the body, but will soar upward with the angels as if returning from a foreign land to its homeland.
