Targum Jonathan

1st–4th c. AD · 1st c. · 10 works

Targum Jonathan (Targum of the Prophets), traditionally attributed to Jonathan ben Uzziel, is the official Jewish Aramaic rendering of the Prophets. More paraphrastic than Onkelos, it interweaves interpretive expansions valuable for tracing early Jewish exegesis.

As an early interpretive layer on Isaiah, Jeremiah, the Twelve and the historical books, it illuminates the interpretive world behind the New Testament and patristic readings of prophecy.
