104. A Word to All Concerning Taking Up One’s Cross. Mt. 16:24–28; Mk. 8:34; 9, 1; Lk. 9:23–27

Then summoning the crowd with His disciples, the Lord Jesus said to all: If anyone wishes to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow Me. For whoever wishes to save his life will lose it; but whoever loses his life for My sake and the Gospel’s will save it—will find it. For what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world, but forfeits his soul? What profit is there if one gains the whole world, yet destroys himself, harms himself? Or what ransom will a man give for his soul?

For the Son of Man will come in the glory of His Father with His Angels, and then He will repay each according to his deeds. And whoever is ashamed of Me and My words in this adulterous and sinful generation, of him the Son of Man will also be ashamed when He comes in the glory of His Father and His own, with the holy Angels.

The Lord concluded this discourse thus: Truly I say to you, there are some standing here who will not taste death until they see the Kingdom of God having come in power—until they see the Son of Man coming in His Kingdom.
