110. A Samaritan Village Refuses to Receive the Lord. Lk. 9:51–56

Now as the days drew near for the Lord Saviour to be taken up from the world, He resolved to go to Jerusalem; and He sent messengers ahead of Him; and they went and entered a village of the Samaritans to make preparations for Him. But they did not receive Him, because He had the appearance of one traveling to Jerusalem. Seeing this, His disciples, James and John, said: Lord! Do You wish us to command fire to come down from heaven and consume them, as Elijah did? But He turned and rebuked them and said: You do not know what manner of spirit you are of. For the Son of Man came not to destroy the lives of men, but to save them. And they went to another village.
