124. The Healing of a Woman Bent Over on the Sabbath. Lk. 13:10–17
In one of the synagogues He was teaching on the Sabbath. There was a woman there who for eighteen years had had a spirit of infirmity; she was bent over and could not straighten up at all. When the Lord Jesus saw her, He called to her and said: Woman, you are freed from your infirmity. And He laid His hands on her, and she immediately became straight and glorified God.
At this the ruler of the synagogue, indignant that the Lord Jesus had healed on the Sabbath, said to the people: There are six days in which work ought to be done; on those days come and be healed, and not on the Sabbath day.
The Lord answered him: Hypocrite! Does not each of you on the Sabbath loose his ox or his ass from the manger and lead it to water? And should not this daughter of Abraham, whom Satan bound, lo, for eighteen years, be loosed from her bonds on the Sabbath day?
And when He said this, all His adversaries were put to shame; and all the people rejoiced at all the glorious works done by Him.
