164. The Lord’s Word Concerning His Impending Death and Resurrection. Mt. 20:17–19; Mk. 10:32–34; Lk. 18:31–34

When the Lord and his disciples were on the way, going up to Jerusalem, the Lord Jesus went ahead of them, and they followed him, and they were amazed and in fear. Drawing the twelve disciples aside, he began again to tell them what was to happen to him. “Behold, we are going up to Jerusalem, and everything written through the prophets concerning the Son of Man will be fulfilled. For the Son of Man will be delivered to the chief priests and the scribes, and they will condemn him to death and deliver him to the Gentiles for mockery and scourging and crucifixion. And they will mock him and revile him and beat him and spit on him, and having beaten him, they will kill him; and on the third day he will rise.” But they understood nothing of this; these words were hidden from them, and they did not grasp what was being said.
