169. The Healing of Two Blind Men as Jesus Left Jericho. Lk. 19:28; Mt. 20:29–34; Mk. 10:46–52

Having said this, the Lord went on and was journeying up to Jerusalem. As he was leaving Jericho with his disciples and a great crowd following him, there were two blind men sitting by the roadside, one of whom was Bartimaeus, the son of Timaeus, and they were begging. Hearing that Jesus of Nazareth was passing by, they began to cry out and say: “Have mercy on us, Lord, Son of David! Jesus, Son of David! Have mercy on us!” The crowd rebuked them and told them to be silent, but they cried out all the more: “Have mercy on us, Lord, Son of David!”

The Lord Jesus stopped and called to them. They called to the blind men and said: “Take courage; rise, he is calling you.” So they threw off their cloaks and rose and came to the Lord Jesus. The Lord Jesus asked them: “What do you want me to do for you?” The blind men said to him: “Lord! That our eyes may be opened. Master! That we may see.” The Lord Jesus, moved with compassion, said to them: “Your faith has saved you,” and he touched their eyes; and immediately their eyes were opened, and they followed the Lord Jesus on the road.
