216. Peter’s First Denial, According to John. Jn. 18:17–18, 27

When the holy Peter was brought by the holy John into the courtyard of the high priest, a maidservant, the doorkeeper, said to Peter: Are you not also one of the disciples of this man? He said: No.

Meanwhile the servants and officers had built a fire, because it was cold, and stood warming themselves. Peter also stood with them and warmed himself.

When the Lord moved from Annas to Caiaphas, whose house was in the same courtyard, Simon Peter continued to stand with the others and to warm himself by the fire. Then they said to him: Are you not also one of his disciples? He denied it and said: No.

One of the servants of the high priest, a kinsman of him whose ear Peter cut off, said: Did I not see you in the garden with him? Peter denied it again.
