218. Peter’s Third Denial, According to Luke. Lk. 22:55–62
After this Peter went back from the outer courtyard to the main courtyard and sat by the fire. When the servants were sitting in the middle of the courtyard by the fire, Peter sat among them. A maidservant, seeing him sitting by the fire and looking at him closely, said: He also was with him. But Peter denied him, saying to the woman: I do not know him.
A little while later, another saw him and said: You are also one of them. But Peter said to this man: No!
About an hour later, another insisted: Certainly this man also was with him, for he is a Galilean. But Peter said to this man: I do not know what you are saying. And immediately, as he was still speaking, a rooster crowed a second time.
Then the Lord, coming out of the Sanhedrin that was sitting in the courtyard there, turned and looked at Peter; and Peter remembered the word of the Lord, as he had said to him: Before the rooster crows twice, you will deny me three times. And, going out, he began to weep bitterly.
