One Does Not Arrive at Unceasing Prayer All at Once, but Through Intermittent Prayers

One does not arrive at such unceasing prayer, or the reception of the prayer-action, all at once, but through intermittent, appointed prayer-workings that are both necessary means to attain unceasing prayer and conditions for preserving it throughout one’s whole life.

The performance of these prayers requires both special outward order and special inward disposition. (3, 359)

Read the short prayers of holy Chrysostom both in the morning and evening, repeating each prayer three times. They greatly aid in preserving attention. They will introduce us to walking before God and to unceasing prayer. (8, 162)
