Chapter 47

Become Accustomed to Walking in the Presence of God

We have our Lord Savior, the Most Merciful One, always ready to help. Turn the eyes of your mind and heart toward Him. Cannot go to church? Pray at home.

Become accustomed to walking in the presence of God—that is, unceasingly to remember God, the omnipresent and all-seeing God, and to hold yourself in your thoughts, feelings, and deeds as you should before the eyes of God. Make this your only occupation until your consciousness merges with the thought of God. If you succeed in this, you will have no need of any other guidance. Fear of God will come and everything will begin to arrange itself.

Read the Gospel and the Epistles of the apostles, a little each day, with reflection and application to yourself.

Keep yourself strict; be merciful to others and humble yourself before everyone. Never offend anyone, and when you are offended, give thanks. Do not judge anyone; consider everyone holy while counting yourself alone as sinful.
