Chapter 14

On Memorizing Psalms

You have memorized the Six Psalms and add: ‘I especially like the last two.’ This gives me the thought to propose to you: whenever you encounter a psalm that pleases you, memorize it. Then use them: whether at the time of your morning and evening standing before God in prayer and for the purpose of warming your prayerful spirit, or in the midst of your tasks — when you are walking, falling asleep, or waking; fill every idle moment with this reading. Look at the second psalm of the Third Hour and the third of the Sixth Hour. They are similar to I lift up my eyes to the mountains (Ps. 120:1).
