It is good to read akathists and canons as they are appointed. Look in the Followed Psalter, at the end. The cantor will help you. But do not take on too many. You can replace them all with prostrations and the Jesus Prayer. Consult about this too. And this is sometimes better.
The Gospel can be read sitting, but without diminishing reverence.
How much should you read from the Psalter? As much as your soul wishes. One kathisma, two, three, or several psalms.
To ‘sing psalms’ means to read them chanted, as for example they sing in church after ‘O Lord, I cry to You’ at Vespers.
