Chapter 50

The Chief Thing in Prayer—feeling Toward God

The prayer you perform—inward, from the soul, from yourself, according to your feeling of spiritual needs more than any other—this is genuine prayer. And do continue to labor in this kind of prayer more than in any other. The essential thing in prayer is feeling toward God from the heart. The words of prayer, when there is such feeling—will arrange themselves. Feeling toward God without words is prayer. Words support and sometimes deepen that feeling.
