Sunday of Holy Pentecost (Acts 2:1–11; Jn. 7:37–52; 8:12)
The economy of our salvation is accomplished! The actions of all the Persons of the Most Holy Trinity in this work have now entered into force. What God the Father was pleased to will, what the Son of God fulfilled in Himself, the Holy Spirit has descended today to apply to believers. For our salvation is ”according to the foreknowledge of God the Father, in the sanctification of the Spirit, unto obedience and sprinkling of the Blood of Jesus Christ” (1 Pet. 1:2).
For this reason we are also baptized ”in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,” pledging ourselves to ”observe all that I have commanded you” (Mt. 28:19–20).
Those who do not confess the Most Holy Trinity cannot have any share in the saving actions of its Persons, and therefore cannot receive salvation. Glory to the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, the consubstantial and indivisible Trinity, who has delivered to us the confession concerning Himself! ”O Almighty Father, Word and Spirit, Nature united in three Hypostases, supremely substantial and supremely divine, we have been baptized into You, and we bless You unto all ages”[1].
