Friday—The Transfiguration of the Lord (2 Cor. 7:10–16; Mk. 2:18–22)
At the Transfiguration, the voice from heaven said nothing other than ”Listen to Him” (Mt. 17:5). Why so? Because the fruit of obedience was set before the eyes right there. The heavenly Father was saying, as it were: Do you wish to attain to this? Then listen to what He will teach and command you. And if you walk in His way, you will without doubt enter the realm of light—which will not surround you from without but will shine forth from within, holding you always in such a state that every bone in your body will cry out: “It is good for us to be here.” You will be filled with the light of joy, the light of a well-ordered soul, the light of knowledge; all sorrows will pass away[1], the disorders of the passions will vanish, falsehood and error will be dispersed. You will become heavenly while on earth, god-born from earth-born, eternally blessed from mortal. Then all things will be yours, because you yourselves will be Christ’s (1 Cor. 3:22–23). One who loves Christ the Lord is beloved by the heavenly Father, and both come to him and make their dwelling with him (Jn. 14:21–23). This is the light of the Transfiguration!
