Chapter 33

1 Whereupon, when all the people heard it, and all her kindred, they cried out, saying, “They have lied; for neither a mastic tree nor an evergreen oak is planted in the garden.”

2 After this, the whole assembly arose and gave praise to God, who saves those who hope in him. And they rose up against the two elders and did to them in the very manner in which they had wickedly plotted to do to their neighbor, and they put them to death, because Daniel had convicted them out of their own mouth of bearing false witness—so that what was spoken might be fulfilled: “He who digs a pit for his neighbor will himself fall into it,” and innocent blood was saved on that day.
