Chapter 34

1 We ought, then, beloved, to take heed in all things, fearing lest anyone, being mastered by some transgression, become through his own self guilty against his own soul—knowing that God is the avenger concerning all things, being himself wholly an eye, and nothing of what is done in the world escapes him. Therefore, ever watchful in heart and living soberly, imitate Susanna, and delight in the garden, and enjoy the ever-flowing water, and wipe away every defilement, and be sanctified with the heavenly oil, that you may present a pure body to God, and kindle your lamps, and await the Bridegroom, so that when he knocks you may receive him, and may sing the praise of God through Christ—to whom be the glory unto the ages. Amen.
