Chapter 38

1 Since, then, they had said that this thing sought by the king was impossible to be told by a man, God showed them that the things impossible with men were possible with God.

2 For when Arioch the chief cook was about to destroy both Daniel and his three friends—for he had gone out to slay the wise men of Babylon (Scripture calls the captain of the sword “chief cook”; for just as the cook slays all the animals and cooks them, in the same way the rulers of this world also slay men, cooking them like irrational animals)—Daniel came forward and said: “Concerning what has this shameless decree gone forth from the king’s presence?” For he sought to learn from him the cause, for what reason the Babylonians were being slain.

3 And Arioch made the matter known to Daniel. And he, having heard, asked him to give him time, that he might make known the interpretation to the king.
