Chapter 39

1 Then Daniel went into his house and made the matter known to Hananiah and Mishael and Azariah. And they sought mercies from the God of heaven, that they too might not perish with the rest of the wise men of Babylon. Then to Daniel in a vision of the night the mystery was revealed. And Daniel blessed the God of heaven, saying: “May the name of the Lord be blessed from age to age, for wisdom and understanding and might are his; and he changes seasons and times, sets up kings and removes them, giving wisdom to the wise and understanding to those who know understanding; he reveals deep and hidden things, knowing the things in the darkness, and the light is with him. To you, O God of my fathers, I give thanks and praise, for you have given me wisdom and power, and have made known to me what we asked of you, and have made known to me the king’s matter.”

2 We ought, then, to understand the tender-heartedness of God, how to those who are worthy and who fear him he quickly reveals and makes manifest, fulfilling their prayers and their requests, as the prophet says: “Who is wise, and will understand these things? and a man of understanding, and will know them?”
