Gregory of Ephesus on Deferring the Question of Dioceses

¹ Gregorios the most God-beloved archbishop of Ephesus said: The matter concerning dioceses has no place now, while all the hierarchical thrones are not gathered together in like manner into one empire; but when the divine assent has accomplished this—which we hope will come to pass under our great and exalted emperor—then the dispute concerning the diocese will also have place; and it will be possible to give and to give in return to each hierarchical throne, as one wills toward his neighbor.
