Second Part of the First Decade (Verses 5–11)
Holy David invited the meek to share his joy and to magnify the Lord together—and he did so not merely because he himself had been vouchsafed a great mercy, namely the salvation of a life that had been in such extreme danger; but because for them too every needful mercy and help is always ready, should they draw near to God in the proper manner. Therefore, following that invitation, he hastens to encourage them—passing everything else by—to seek their salvation in God alone, assuring them that such seeking will not be in vain: first, by his own example, and second, by indicating the law of God’s mercies. He speaks to them as it were thus: behold, I sought God and received mercy; and you will receive it also if you draw near to Him—verses 5–7; for such is the law of the all-good God, that He always saves those who draw near to Him in the fear of God—verse 8—as long as they draw near with the requisite dispositions—verses 9–11.
