Saint Theophan the Recluse gave much of his life in seclusion to a single task: opening the Scriptures to ordinary believers. This volume gathers the whole of that labor — his commentaries on all fourteen Pauline letters, from Romans through the Hebrews he did not live to finish, together with his exposition of Psalm 118 — and adds his shorter exegetical works: the expositions of selected psalms, his resolution of the perplexities of the unjust steward and the hundredfold promise, and his interpretation of the Lord's Prayer gathered from the words of the Holy Fathers. Exact in doctrine and warm in counsel, it is Scripture read as the Church has always read it.
