The Time and Place of Composition of the Epistle

A conjecture regarding the time and place of composition of the Epistle has already been set forth in the general introduction. Here we shall cite only the words of Saint Chrysostom, who says: “It seems to me that the Apostle wrote this Epistle during the interval between his first and second imprisonment.” And further: “This Epistle seems to me to precede the (Second) Epistle to Timothy. For that he wrote at the end of his life, while in his (final) bonds, whereas this he wrote at a time when he had been released and was free from imprisonment.”
