244. The Resurrection of the Lord, Attested by His Appearances After Rising. 1 Pet. 3:18–19; Acts 2:24–31, 10:40–41, 13:31

Christ the Lord, to bring us to God, suffered once for our sins, the righteous for the unrighteous, being put to death in the flesh, yet alive in the spirit, by which also he preached to the spirits in prison. But God raised him, breaking the bonds of death; for it was impossible for death to hold him, as David, foreseeing, spoke concerning the resurrection of Christ the Lord, that his soul was not left in Hades, and his flesh did not see corruption (Ps. 15:10). God raised him on the third day and allowed him to appear not to all the people, but to witnesses chosen beforehand by God, those who ate and drank with him after his resurrection from the dead. To these chosen ones the Lord Jesus showed himself alive, after his suffering and after his death, with many infallible proofs, appearing to them over forty days and speaking of the kingdom of God.

(The resurrection of the Lord came to pass invisibly and was known to no one.)
