78. The Healing of the Woman With the Hemorrhage. Mt. 9:18–22; Mk. 5:21–34; Lk. 8:40–48

When the Lord Jesus had crossed over in the boat to His own shore, a great multitude gathered to Him; and the people received Him, because they all waited for Him.

He was still by the sea. And behold, there came one of the rulers of the synagogue, named Jairus, and seeing Him, fell at His feet, beseeching Him to come into his house, because he had an only daughter, about twelve years of age, and she was at the point of death. And he besought the Lord earnestly, saying: My daughter is at the point of death; come and lay your hands upon her, that she may be healed and live.

The Lord Jesus went with him. A great multitude followed after Him; and as He went, the people pressed upon Him.

And behold, a woman who had suffered from a flow of blood for twelve years, who had endured much under many physicians, and had spent all her substance, and was not healed by any – who had spent all that she had and was not benefited, but came into a worse state – this woman, having heard of the Lord Jesus, came behind Him in the crowd and touched the hem of His garment. For she said within herself: If I can only touch His garment, I shall be healed. And immediately the source of her blood was dried up; and she felt in her body that she was healed of her affliction.

At the same time the Lord Jesus, having perceived in Himself that power had gone out from Him, turned in the crowd and said: Who touched My garment? When all denied it, Peter and those with Him said: Master! You see that the multitude surrounds You and presses upon You, and You say: Who touched Me? But the Lord Jesus said: Someone touched Me, for I felt power go out from Me. And He looked around to see her who had done this.

The woman, seeing that she could not be hid, and knowing what had happened to her, came to the Lord in fear and trembling, and fell before Him and told Him the whole truth – she declared before all the people for what reason she had touched Him and how she was immediately healed.

Then the Lord Jesus said to her: Take courage, daughter! Your faith has saved you; go in peace, and be whole from your affliction.

The woman was healed from that hour.
