The Law of Spiritual Life: Keep Your Heart in Feeling Toward God and You Will Always Be in God’s Remembrance
When attention descends into the heart, it will draw all the powers of soul and body into one point… At first, attention is held in the heart by effort of will; the force of will itself produces warmth in the heart. This warmth then holds the attention without special effort from it. They then support each other and must remain inseparable, for the scattering of attention cools the warmth, and the diminishing of warmth weakens the attention.
From this comes the law of spiritual life: keep your heart in feeling toward God, and you will always be in God’s remembrance. (7, 64–65)
The chief point is that attention not depart from the Lord; this is the same as establishing in the heart the remembrance of God. (9, 70)
For those desiring to be established in one thought of God, it is commanded to leave the head and descend with the mind into the heart, and there stand with unwavering attention. Only when the mind unites with the heart can one expect success in the remembrance of God. (4, 326)
