Chapter 103

On Prayer Before Sleep and at Night

103.2.1 The mercy of God be with you!

103.3.1 May your arrival at our monastic community be for your good! And to the nun!

103.4.1 If you push yourselves a little, you will encounter no insurmountable obstacles, even from your own slothfulness, in receiving the Holy Mysteries of Christ. This is what I wish for you with all my heart.

103.5.1 When I wrote to you about praying more at night, I meant prayer before sleep; and when you wake up, pray lying down—this is no bad thing—but a good substitute for empty daydreaming in the intervals of sleep. It’s good to know several psalms by memory so you can read them at such times.

103.6.1 The weather is indeed fine. May your soul be just as bright as it is bright outside! And let your sun—Christ the Lord—shine brightly in your soul, as this sun shines in the sky!

103.7.1 I wish all of this for the nun as well.

103.8.1 Be saved!

103.9.1 Your intercessor, Bishop Theophan.
