Exhaust Yourself So That You May Receive the Remembrance of God

God Himself implants the remembrance of God in the soul. But for this, the soul itself must exhaust itself and labor. Labor, compelling yourself with all your might to the unceasing remembrance of God. And God, seeing how earnestly you desire this, will give you the remembrance of Himself. Short little prayers are very suited to our own labor in remembering God. These prayers—whatever you wish… “Lord, have mercy!”—“Lord Jesus Christ, have mercy on me!”—“Jesus, Son of God, have mercy on me!”…and others… Any will do. Use whichever touches your heart most.
