So the Lord Himself Commands Us to Act

The question arises: how then are we to keep God in mind? Thus: whatever work, great or small, you are doing, hold in mind that the Lord Himself, the Omnipresent God, commands you to do it and watches how you do it. Keeping yourself this way, you will do every work with attention and remember God. In this is the whole secret of successful action in your situation toward your main goal. Please understand this and arrange yourself accordingly. When you have arranged yourself this way, then thoughts will cease to wander here and there…

Why are things not going well for you now? I think because you want to remember the Lord while forgetting about worldly matters. But worldly matters press into consciousness and push out remembrance of the Lord. But you should do the opposite: be concerned about worldly matters, but as about the Lord’s commission and as before the Lord. With you, neither one nor the other comes out… but this way both will be done properly. (9, 7)
