Chapter 26. A Love of Humanity Is Useful for the King
1 How great, then, should the emperor’s love for humanity be? As great as God’s love for mankind. He will not resort to the sword as his first recourse, but only from necessity, and reluctantly, imitating the King above; and if he will not imitate that King, he will at least be shamed by the king bee, the only one of all the bees that nature made stingless.[1] Whoever draws his sword too readily is no king, but an enemy—one who has neither God as his model, nor is shaped in his likeness, but rather resembles those avenging demons who feed on human blood.
