Chapter 4. It Is Fitting for the King to Despise the Love of Pleasure

¹ But if the enchantment of pleasures holds sway over you as well, what a fine emperor we shall have, and how worthy to rule over others! A man who has made himself three times a slave to base pleasures—how will he teach others not to rank the laws below pleasure? He has, of course, schooled himself so well already! How will he lead others toward what is better, when he himself will not listen to those who would correct him?
