Chapter 156

1 Two abominations, then, Daniel foretold: one of devastation, and one of desolation. What is that of devastation but the one that Antiochus set up there at that time? And what is that of desolation but the universal one, when the Antichrist shall be present?

2 As Daniel says: “And he himself shall stand for the destruction of many, and he shall divide the land for gifts and cast up against it a siege-mound, and the land of Egypt shall not be a deliverance, and these shall be saved out of his hand: Edom and Moab and the chief of the sons of Ammon.”

3 For these are the ones who come together with him because of kinship and who are the first to proclaim him king. Edom are the sons of Esau, who dwell on Mount Seir; and Moab and Ammon are the sons of Lot, who were begotten of his two daughters; as Isaiah also says: “And they shall fly in the ships of foreigners, plundering the sea together, and those from the east and west and those from the north shall give glory, and the sons of Ammon shall be the first to obey.”
